Destiny cannot be escaped, just as the arrival of Dune: Part 2 cannot be evaded. The highly anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s new adaptation from Frank Herbert’s cult novel has been postponed multiple times, but we are finally nearing its definitive debut in theaters. While awaiting this cinematic release, a new official trailer has been released, immersing us in the heart of this new film: in the first chapter, the entire context of the story was slowly built, with young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) hunted and pursued by the Harkonnen enemies on the desert planet of Arrakis, until his encounter with the Fremen population and especially with Chani (Zendaya), the girl who appeared to him in a dream. Films like Dune – Part Two have the power to remind us of the magic of cinema and how the theater will always prevail over the streaming we enjoy at home. Despite increasingly advanced surround sound systems and state-of-the-art projectors, it is nearly impossible to get engulfed in a story like Dune in an environment other than the cinema. A chapter that, especially at the beginning, was overshadowed by a certain skepticism due to the disastrous film directed by David Lynch in 1984 and the Star Wars saga, which essentially plundered Frank Herbert’s novel to create a universe and suggestions very similar to those of Dune. Fortunately, thanks to meticulous attention to detail and a development that courageously decided to take its time rather than focusing solely on action scenes, director Denis Villeneuve managed to convince both the audience and critics of the success of the project, which, after its presentation at Venice and six Oscars on the shelf, is finally ready for a second chapter.
