“Alexander: The Making of a God” is Netflix’s first series with Tailfeather Productions, made in partnership with Lion TV. 🦁 It’s executive produced by Lucy van Beek, known for her work on “China Megatomb Revealed”, “Stephen Hawking’s The Search for a New Earth”, and “Britain from Above”, and Nick Catliff, who worked on “Rebuilding The World Trade Centre”, “RAF 100 with Ewan McGregor”, and “America Revealed”. The showrunner is Tony Mitchell, the genius behind “The Bible”, “AD”, “Primeval”, and “Supervolcano”. 🌋

Today, we’re diving into the life of a legendary figure who needs no introduction – Alexander the Great. Born in 356 BC in the heart of Macedonia, Alexander is celebrated as one of the most successful military commanders in history.
Ascending to the throne at the tender age of 20, Alexander spent the majority of his reign on a grand military campaign across Western Asia and Egypt. By 30, he had carved out one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from Greece to northwestern India.
Aristotle, the renowned philosopher, was Alexander’s tutor until he was 16. This early education sparked in Alexander a lifelong interest in philosophy, medicine, and scientific investigation. In 335 BC, just after becoming king, Alexander embarked on a campaign in the Balkans, reasserting control over Thrace and parts of Illyria, and famously destroying the city of Thebes.
As the leader of the League of Corinth, Alexander launched his father’s pan-Hellenistic project, leading all Greeks in their conquest of Persia. In 334 BC, he invaded the Achaemenid Persian Empire, beginning a series of campaigns that would last a decade. After conquering Asia Minor, Alexander defeated the Achaemenid Persia in decisive battles at Issus and Gaugamela, eventually overthrowing Darius III and conquering the empire in its entirety.
Sadly, Alexander’s remarkable journey ended in 323 BC in Babylon, Mesopotamia. His legacy, however, lives on. From a warrior prince to a walking god, Alexander the Great’s story continues to captivate us, making him a figure of endless fascination and study.
